At a recent luncheon at David Sutherland Showroom, Shea Soucie, of Soucie Horner, LTD presented the amazing SHIIR collection of custom area rugs that she has designed in collaboration with rug purveyor Oscar Isberian after much investigation into rug, hand sewing, and hand embroidery techniques in India and the far East.
These are some of the most exciting new looks in area rugs that I have seen in a while that incorporate techniques using handwoven and embroidered designs applied in new and unusual ways, and reinventing dhurrie rugs, one of my all time favorites.
Created with the highest quality of yarns in wool, silk, and linen, the rugs offer a huge collection of complex patterns and textures that demand to be touched and cuddled up to!
Called the SHIIR collection, this special grouping of rugs offers designs that seem timeless due to unique processes used to create gentle striation in the woven background giving the rug the look of an aged antique rug of opulent provenance.
This striation, or color variation, in a rug is called "ABRASH". A term, according to Brian Rojanasumphong of Soucie Horner, LTD, that anyone in the rug industry would recognize immediately. Thankfully I am never too old to learn something new!
David Sutherland is featuring the SHIIR collection this next Tuesday morning at his "GET COZY WITH SHIIR" event.
Since he is offering hot chocolate, cinnamon rolls and wintry treats Tuesday morning 9 to 10:30, I am in!!! Let's all go cozy up together on the sumptuous rugs and enjoy a cup!!!
